In abaya and modest fashion shoots, the garment is the star. Your job is to bring out its beauty, movement and detail while keeping a calm, confident presence.
Show the fabric moving
- Walk with slow, long steps so the hem of the abaya moves.
- Make a half-turn and then pause; the shot is often taken in that moment of stillness.
- Lift your arm slightly to show the width and embroidery of the sleeves.
Hands and details
Hands feature a lot in abaya shots, especially around sleeves and buttons. Keep your nails clean and tidy in a neutral shade, and move your hands gently without pulling at the fabric.
Ask the stylist what the focus of each piece is: the embroidery, the cut or the fabric. Then shape your movement to bring it out.
