Digitals: the simple photos every agency asks for
Photos without heavy make-up or editing that show you as you are. Here is how to take them properly at home.
Digitals are simple photos taken without heavy make-up or editing, so a casting team can see what you really look like. They are often the first thing you are asked for, even before your portfolio.
The shots you need
- A front-facing headshot with a neutral expression.
- A headshot with a natural smile.
- Profile shots of your face from both sides.
- A full-length front shot.
- A full-length side shot.
How to take them
- Stand near a window in daylight, out of direct sun.
- Use a light, plain background.
- Wear simple, well-fitting clothes in neutral colours, or a plain abaya.
- Ask someone else to shoot from chest height instead of taking selfies.
Never use filters or beauty apps on your digitals. Their whole point is honesty, and any difference that shows on shoot day hurts your reputation.
Update your digitals whenever your look changes noticeably, such as a new haircut or colour, or growing or shaving a beard.
